Arc Services

ADVOCACY

  • assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in advocating for their rights

  • assistance to parents in advocating for the rights of their children in both educational and community settings

  • mediation between parents and professionals in order to prevent the break-down of vital communication

GUARDIANSHIP

  • pre-guardianship counseling services for families in order to assist with their child's Future's Planning

  • guardianship services for individuals with developmental disabilities who are without a parent, friend or relative to provide this protective service

RESOURCE CENTER

  • monitoring of public policies and legislation to protect the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities

  • help in locating appropriate services and monitoring the consistency of care

  • assistance with money management and budgeting to encourage maximum independence

  • consultation and support in the development of goals and independence

  • networking with local community agencies to enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities

  • forms assistance: welfare, Social Security, job applications, vocational assistance forms, housing forms, community education enrollment, etc.

  • consultation with at risk parents in crises, or as referred

  • information to reduce the incidence and limit the consequences of developmental disabilities through education, research and advocacy

  • information and statistics to families, doctors and other professionals on medical diagnosis and developmental disabilities

  • referrals to services and support networks to assist in linkage to vital resources

  • Kids on the Block puppet presentations with emphasis on differences and disabilities

  • Life Skills Class offering an educational approach to personal development 

  • a newsletter to provide information and to network resources in the community

  • Internet access for families to obtain information and contact with other families and professionals
